How to get into UGA

Chartered by the state of Georgia in 1785, the University of Georgia is the birthplace of public higher education in America — launching our nation’s great tradition of world-class public education. The campus is home to nearly 30,000 undergraduate students. The University of Georgia may be the school for you if you have excelled in high school and you are looking for a place to be academically challenged.

So what does it take to get into UGA? Last year less than 50% of nearly 29,000 applicants were offered admission. Of those, 99% had taken at least one AP, IB, or Dual Enrollment class. More than 9,000 had a core GPA of 4.0 or higher. The middle 50% SAT score range was 1300-1460, and the middle 50% ACT score was 30-34.

Clearly, high achievement in a rigorous high school curriculum combined with solid test scores go a long way toward being admitted at UGA. The University is looking for bright, motivated students who will contribute to the campus. Your essay and responses to short answer questions on the application can let the Admissions Officers know who you are and explain your desire to attend UGA. It’s important to include your experiences that demonstrate your commitment to community and leadership, and how these will enrich the campus.

It’s also important that you pay close attention to deadlines. The deadline for freshman applications in January 1, and all supporting documents must be submitted or requested by January 8. Be thorough as you complete the application. If you forget to include something on the application the University won’t know about it.

If you are among the applicants who are offered admission – congratulations! If you are not offered a spot in the freshman class, consider applying in the future as a transfer student. UGA considers transfers for admission who have completed 30-59 hours with a 3.3 GPA.

The University of Georgia is a great and affordable choice for high achieving students.
